So I finished "The Host". Just... wow. That truly was an amazing story, Stephanie Meyer did a great job of creating this new world and concept to separate herself from her Twilight books.
I like the idea of this book and how it's a sci-fi that you can enjoy even if sci-fi isn't you're favorite movie genre. But it's also not your typical sci-fi with aliens, etc. instead it's about these other worldly creatures called souls that aim to perfect Earth as well as the human race.
I really connected with the bond the characters Melanie and Wanda shared through Melanie being in Wanda's thoughts and prisoner in her own body while Wanda, the soul, took over it. At first they obviously share some banter but as the story progresses you see how connected they are. Wanda would give up her own life so that Melanie could have her body back, Melanie would give up her body so that Wanda could continue to live on Earth with these people she has grown to love and has done well to protect.
As for the romantic interests, Jared and Ian, I'm more drawn towards Ian. I thought the way he perceived Wanda as a soul was very beautiful. He was able to accept her as she was and grew to love her. Whereas Jared for most of the book did not and wanted Wanda to either die or just disappear. But if we're talking Melanie and Jared then I guess I am happy for them to be together, I just prefer Wanda and Ian. Not really spoiling anything but I guess everyone kind of wins at the end of the book so that's alright.
Anyway, I would definitely recommend this book. I think there's something for everyone, it has romance, sci-fi, action and drama to it. So make sure to pick up a copy and get reading, you don't know what you're missing! If you're not a Twilight fan and are skeptical about reading "The Host", don't be. They are two completely different books and Stephanie Meyer has written this one phenomenally well.
